Quality Crops is a rapidly growing agribusiness group established in 2004 by Manuel Coronado, owner and Chief Executive Officer.
Our business operations are based in Romania, location selected for its very specific benefits – Romania has become the new frontier for seed production due to its climate, rich soils, experienced work force and low cost base relative to other European countries. The country’s status as a member of the European Union and its proximity to Eastern markets also provides European seed companies with a vital competitive advantage.
The cost and risk of setting up a seed production operation has led an increasing number of seed companies to out-source the production of seeds.
As the first and only full seed production service company in Romania, Quality Crops – Seed Production Services offers European seed companies a unique combination of specialist skills in seed production, expertise in international business and an intimate knowledge of the local market.
Manuel Coronado was born and raised by a traditional farming family in Buenos Aires in Argentina. He was educated at the University of Buenos Aires from which he graduated with a degree in Agricultural Engineering.
Manuel has dedicated a career in excess of twenty years to the seed business and has particular expertise in seed production. He brings to Quality Crops not only extensive experience of seed production, but considerable specialist expertise in seed production in Argentina, Romania and the Black Sea region in general. In addition to his technical expertise, Manuel has a profound understanding of the business needs and operations of large multi-national seed companies.
He has worked for Syngenta Seeds as the Regional head for Latin America. He was also part of the company’s senior management team.
Before joining Syngenta, Manuel was the CEO for Central Europe and CIS Operations for Pioneer Hi-Bred. He spent seven years working as the General Manager of this large multi-national seed company in Romania. During this period he developed an expert knowledge of the market, built a network of solid and reliable contacts and mastered the Romanian language.
Ing. Dumitru Antonescu is responsible for Seed Production Services. Mr. Antonescu has extensive experience in crop and seed production. After serving as Secretary of State in the Ministry of Agriculture in the early nineties, he joined Pioneer Romania where he worked for fifteen years as Seed Production Director.
Several thousand hectares of corn and sunflower seed fields were planted every year under Mr. Antonescu’s direction. He was also instrumental in starting up the construction and first years’ operation of Pioneer’s modern seed plant in Afumati.
The special skills of our agronomists, and the combination of our experience, connections and knowledge of the local market, enables Quality Crops to offer Romanian agribusiness and multinational companies a unique opportunity.
